Goal: To create a poster for an event that Red Bull would sponsor.
I decided on motocross to create the poster for. These events are always sponsored by energy drink companies. I started off by looking for inspiration images.
I found a pose that I liked and stylized it to feel gritty and rugged. I didn't want to use a lot of color, so I picked a limited palette that made the different pieces of the image recognizable.
I wanted the focus to be on the word Motocross. I chose a blocky, bold typeface called Inlanders Bold and stylized it to give it texture and dimension.
For the supporting text, I wanted it to be simple and legible. I chose Lorimer No. 2. To make it stand out, I changed the color, and either added an outer glow or a drop shadow.
Lastly, for the background I stuck with a blue that would complement the motocross image. The heading was hard to read on top of the bright blue, so I added a gradient. I added a splatter texture to bring everything together and keep the poster from feeling flat.
